Dr. Recep Kaya was born in Istanbul, Türkiye in May 1987 and received his environmental engineering degree from Sakarya University (SAU) in June 2007 with a specialization in water/wastewater treatment.
He worked at Istanbul Technical University Membrane Technologies National Research Center (MEM-TEK) between 2010-2021 and initially studied membrane module design of different filtration processes in the context of flux optimization. He works in the field of membrane bioreactor (MBR) fouling control within the scope of the ISTKA project – later within the scope of the TÜBİTAK project. He completed his doctoral thesis on this subject in 2018.
Later, Dr. Recep Kaya joined MEMSİS as a research engineer and worked on various topics such as hollow fiber membrane production, production management, industrial scale production machine installations and mass production of MBR modules. His last years were related to the optimization of MBR module mass production. In parallel, he worked as a research assistant in the field of drinking water and wastewater treatment specifically for MEM-TEK.
Dr. Kaya took up the position of Assistant Professor at Istanbul Technical University in 2021. In the same year, his postdoctoral project on nanofiber membranes was accepted by TÜBİTAK. He completed the nanofiber filter project in collaboration with Michigan State University and McMaster University in North America.
